This short course is focused on the modelling and simulation of the froth flotation process, after a review the basic theory of froth flotation.

The course will heavily rely in the use of the USIM PAC process simulator. Caspeo will provide a 30-day license to all attendees. Attendees will use their own computers and must install the software before the start of the course.

COURSE PROGRAM

1. Flotation Theory :

A quick review of basic flotation theory and its relationship with the process modelling.

2. Flotation Modelling :

Introduction to the main theoretical models and their applications.

Coffee Break

3. Models Comparison. Advantages and Disadvantages :

Several models are used to simulate the same flotation process. A comparison of the actual data and the simulated results is performed. This exercise shows what are the advantages and disadvantages of each model.

Coffee Break

4. Building a Flotation Process Simulator :

Attendees will learn how to build a flotation simulator from scratch using process and operational data.

5. Process Assessment and Optimization of a Cu-Mo Flotation Plant :

The analysis of the flotation plant performance leads to the study of several solutions in the search to improve the copper and moly recovery. The simulator also helps to study the impact of the throughput increase, of the change in the feed size, in the feed grade, etc.

Coffee Break

6. Copper Flotation Plant Production Forecasting :

A process simulator serves to the production planning. A grinding-classification-flotation simulator is used to forecast the concentrator production and how it is possible to optimize the plant performance.

INSTRUCTOR

Eng. MANUEL GONZÁLEZ FERNÁNDEZ

Graduate from the Oviedo Mining School (Spain, 2011) Manuel completed his education with a Master of Science in Quality Management, Environmental Management and Innovation at the COIMNE (2012). In 2012, he joins Caspeo, France as process engineer.

He is relocated in Chile where he contributes to the foundation of Caspeo Chile (2014). Besides being the Managing Director, he is also involved in plant design and optimization projects using modelling and simulation. He also participates to the implementation of metallurgical accounting systems in several plants of South America and Worldwide.

He has animated several courses about process simulation, material balance and metallurgical accounting.
